You wanna see my house?

Since our house is actually clean because it is for sale, I took some pics. I was inspired by Chris' tour of her room. Our house is about the size of a room! Sadly, most of the ridiculous stuff, like our treasured B&W photo of a llama sticking out of a taxi are stored away. And I've had to get rid of our random piles of crap. This post will break your dial up.

Front yard.

The door was painted....I shit you not, bright orangey pink salmon when we bought the place. And unfortunately for us, the new carpet the seller had just put in matched. Heinous! The trees are enormous and they like to drop their leaves at completely different times.

Porch

Don't you love the fake brick wall? We decided this was the place for some of our tiles. If you are into art pottery, you'll notice a few other Pewabic and Motawi pieces around. We have a few things from Derby pottery in New Orleans, too, because we met Mark Derby in a bar on Magazine one night. Cool guy.

This is all messy with packing boxes. We also have a shoe army.

We sit out here and watch the black squirrels dig in our windowbox impatiens in the morning.

Living room

I managed to stick my finger over the flash on this one.

The sofa and chair came from my mom's best friend. She owns a manufactured home business and these were in the model homes for a year. My mom traded an antique doll bed for them and the table and chairs on the porch. heh! I found some seconds Pottery Barn slipcovers on ebay and pretended that the fabric underneath isn't "Florida shell-themed-pastel." They've lasted through my college apartments and served us well, but they won't be coming with us.

We found this ottoman in someone's junk pile on the curb. Nat was extremely embarrassed when I begged him to help me get it home. The ebayed PB slipcover in the same color fit it perfectly. You can see the horrific dusty rose color trying to escape one corner.

"Dining Room"

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I use the term loosely because we usually study or do work at the table. We eat on the floor. Weirdos.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

We have several sets of neat china/ depression glass/fiesta ware/ asian pottery (my mom was an antiques dealer and my grandma is an avid junk shop prowler) but they don't really match our house. I found these dishes at Target clearanced for 62 cents each. Perhaps we will break them on the sidewalk in celebration when we sell the house, because I really don't want to pack them.

Booze table with a wedding photog. The print at the top is an Ansel Adams. Nat's great aunt worked with him while he was at Yellowstone, and he gave it to her. Both Nat and I admire his work so much, that when we moved in together, we had duplicates of three prints. heh. The rest are cheap prints and stuff I've taken.

Bathroom

Here is the world's smallest bathroom. Note the airplane-size sink.

Nat and I tiled the surround two years ago. Now we can actually shower.

Bedroom

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The bedroom is so small that we couldn't fit the headboard or footboard in it. So, it is just a frame. Still it is better than what Nat was sleeping on when I met him- an old waterbed frame with a mattress set inside balanced on top of milk crates. It screamed romance and sex.

The furniture was my mom's when she was little. We stripped it and stained it funky green and mahogany. And more masks.

This is just barely wedged in there.

Office

This is where my ass is quite a bit.

Book nook - Nat is the mask collector, we edited the collection severously last week. That is my dulcimer that Nat gave me for Christmas last year.

Yarnies, note the basket of knitting projects. We have two of those tall shelves because the folks at Target.com are special and sent two. We have a lot of Pacific Northwest art scattered around because we spent a month in Alaska one summer when I was in undergrad and Nat was in med school. Then we lived off Ramen the rest of the year.

Kitchen

This is the micro kitchen.

And yes, that *is* a washer and dryer in there. At least it isn't in the basement. The steps down there are so steep it is almost like a ladder.

Back Yard

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

We have a really big back yard compared to most of the others in the neighborhood. We use the foundation of the old garage as a patio. We put in a little pond and a frog moved in. His name is Buddy. There is a wooden shed on the other side that we had built for us when we first moved in. The guy who came to build it was wasted and had a "69 and tequila- good times!" t-shirt on. I called the company to have them get his drunk ass out of my yard, and they fired him, in a spectacular yelling match right there on that patio. Classy.

Big = awesome. Clean = even better. We bought this place from a smoker with a cat and a dog. There was hair everywhere...and that lovely nicotine film on all the windows. Gross.

AMBER - Good gracious! How in the WORLD do you keep it so neat - even while trying to sell it??? I would be afraid to post pics of the mess our house is right now (and that's after I spend 3 hours tidying up last night)....we're still unpacking Jack's stuff from the garage (though there may be room for one car by now - LOL!)

Yes...Donna's correct - it should sell in no time!! Thanks for sharing!

Re: from Jacksbeth

We rented a storage unit for a few months. There is no way I could have de-cluttered it without it. Plus my big secret to tidiness is: No kids! (except Nat.) I have a hard enough time cleaning up after myself. The size of this house was birth control enough. No room for kids!
And I remember when Nat and I tried to merge our two apartments. Two stereos, tvs, toasters, beds, EVERYTHING. It is a big job!

Amber, that is just the sweetest little house! If I wanted to live in that area (wherever it is) I would seriously consider buying it.
